Volunteer

VolunteersVolunteering at the Ballard NW Senior Center:
We always welcome help around the Center. Volunteering is a great way to get involved and get to know some seniors too. We will do everything we can to match your interests to our needs. Please fill out the application and we will contact you. We will also be doing a criminal background check.
Our current volunteer needs are:

Downstairs Reception Volunteers
We need volunteers to help greet people as they come into the Center, answer questions, give directions and assistance, oversee lunch sign ups, and take money for special purchases.
Data-Entry Volunteers
We need more volunteers to help enter attendance records on the computer. All new data-entry volunteers will be trained, so no experience required.
Computer Teacher Volunteers
We are looking for more volunteers to teach computer classes. Each month has a computer class on the first three Thursdays of the month from 1:00pm-2:30pm.
Kitchen Assistant Volunteers
We are looking for volunteers who love food and want to help Chef Bob in the kitchen. Food Handler's Permit required.
Bulk Mail Newsletter Volunteers
We are looking for volunteers to help fold and assemble the newsletters on January 22nd, for the mailing on January 23rd, as well as help with other mailings.
Party Decorator Volunteers
We are looking for people to help take down the winter holiday decorations and put up new decorations for the coming events.
Auction Volunteers
We are looking for volunteers to help prepare for the Auction
Rummage Sale Volunteers
We need volunteers to help on one or all of the days of the Rummage Sale. Thursday, February 7th is Rummage Setup. Friday, February 8th and Saturday, February 9th is the Rummage Sale.
Party Decorator Volunteers
We are looking for people to help take down the winter holiday decorations and put up new decorations for the coming events.
Auction Volunteers
We are looking for volunteers to help prepare for the Auction.

And much more. Download the PDF flyer explaining more about our volunteer opportunities.

At Large in Ballard: Women of the Book

First there was a room without a real purpose; someone proposed they build a bookcase and have books for borrowing. Then shelves overflowed and they wanted more bookcases, and so it became a bookstore. It’s a bookstore open to the public that too few people know exists, run by a dedicated group I like to call the women of the book at the Ballard Senior Center. Read more on the Ballard News-Tribune.
