Come by yourself and meet new friends! Find an event for you. You don't have to be a senior to be a part of the excitement at the Ballard NW Senior Center.

Mens' Breakfast Club

The Men's Breakfast Club is going strong.  All men are invited and encouraged to join in on this 'men only' breakfast.  Chef Bob whips up his fluffy scrambled eggs accompanied by buttermilk pancakes, bacon/sausages, and seasonal fruit.  Beverages include orange juice, coffee, and tea.

In March we hosted Josh de Lacy who walked 6,700 miles 'Traveling On Trust'. The speaker in April was Gymnast and Fitness Instructor Sterling Luke who talked about his specialty men's fitness.

The speaker in May will be Ballard's Maritime Pacific Brewing Company owner George Hancock.  He will speak about the brewing process and about the Mens' Only Tour coming on Monday, June 20th.

Theme: Summer At The Beach
Celebrate diversity, have fun and support the center.  Enjoy good entertainment, exciting bingo games, fantastic prizes, and yoummy food and beverages.  Cafe menu and beverage servic starts at 6:00pm.  Bingo is 7:00pm to 9:00pm with Sylvia O'Stayformore and the Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence. You are encouraged to wear sunglasses, sunhats, Hawaiian shirts. Please no swimsuits.

Are you the next big raffle winner?  Who couldn't use some extra summer cash?  Books containing 10 raffle tickets each go in the mail the week of May 15th and will also be available at the 2nd Floor Reception Desk.  Tickets are $2 each.  The drawing is at the Summer BBQ on July 14th.
Please return your tickets by noon on the 14th.  Hope you can purchase or sell to family and friends.  Maybe they can help and sell to their circle of friends and contacts.  Thank you for your support!

We are known for our quality Rummage Sales.  Someone's Rummage is another's treasure.  Our next big sale of 2016 is on June 10th and 11th. 
Please volunteer - We need lots of help to get ready.  Please join the Rummage Sale Committee facilitated by Bob.  The Committee members plan, organize, price, give their good ideas, and help make the sale a spectacular success.  We especially need pricing help now:  This is a fun thing to do as a group - price, laugh, and take some ownership of the sales.  We also need your 'don't needs':  While spring cleaning, put a box or two aside for the center.  Need a pick-up?  Call and we will come for larger loads.  These sales bring in over $20,000 a year and we truly need you help!  Our 2nd Floor Board Room will be transformed into a very special place.

We will have our first Open Saturday this year on June 11th, the same day as our Rummage & Book Sale.  Find rummage treasures, all your summer reading materials, have lunch in Bob's Cafe, and participate in Open Saturday activities.  A full day at the center!  Open Saturday features Bridge, Social Worker appointments, Movie, and more!

Join us for our Father's Day Celebration on June 17th in the Harmony Dining Hall after lunch.  Dads are such special people in our lives.  Please come and honor fathers on this day.  If you have special memories to share with others, we look forward to everyone's favorite dad memories.  Look forward to this day!

AARP Washington and more than 40 other advocacy and community service services organizations that advocate and serve thousands of older adults in King County and the State of Washington are deeply concerned that United Way’s new funding priorities will no longer include investments in programs that serve older adults and people with disabilities. Read more here.

How Bingo Saved This Seattle Man's Life

When Bernie Sadowski first came to the Ballard Senior Center in 2009, he didn’t care about life. His wife of 50 years had died. “It was like, OK, I’ll go to sleep when I feel sleepy no matter where I was,” he said. He didn’t care if he woke up, and he didn’t know what to do with himself. Sadowski’s doctor told him he was going through depression and suggested that he get out and socialize. Sadowski’s daughter took him to the senior center. “Frankly, this saved my life,” Sadowski said. Read more here.


Membership dues for 2016 are $50 for the year and are available for purchase now. Membership is a good deal for anyone who wants to receive reduced fees on foot care, trips, many classes, as well as invitations to the member’s only luncheon and other benefits. Members receive coupons which provide some additional savings. We offer 3 options for payment to make it easier to support us. 

Payment Plans:

1) Make one payment of $50.

2) Make two payments of $25.
(1st payment by 1/31/2016, 2nd payment by 6/30/2016)

3) Make four payments of $12.50.
(1st and 2nd payment now, 3rd payment by 6/30/2016, 4th payment by 9/30/2016)

4) Member Sponsorship

Paying someone’s membership makes a wonderful gift that keeps on giving throughout the year. We also accept donations to help pay dues for those who cannot afford them. You do not have to be a member to participate at the Center.

Thanks to all that volunteered, planned, donated, sponsored, attended, setup, cooked. served, and helped in any way.  To you all my heartfelt thank you.  You were instrumental in our success.  As reported in my Director's Message we almost made our dream goal of $75,000.  We did meet our realistic goal and raised $72,151 to support our wonderful center.  Thanks everyone, I am grateful.
