  1. Where is the Ballard Northwest Senior Center?

  2. How old do I need to be to a member?

    Anyone age 50 and above is encouraged to participate in our activities. Everyone is welcome here. Our major areas for those served is Ballard, Magnolia, Crown Hill and surrounding areas.

  3. Where can I report a suspected case of Elder Abuse or an Elder at risk?

    First, if you are aware of physical abuse in progress or have a concern for the safety of a person you should always call 911 or there is Adult Protective Services, phone (206) 341-7660 or toll free 800-346-9257.

    You can also contact the helpful people at the Gatekeeper Program to inform them of any elderly in need of assistance.
    Signs of an Elder at Risk: The most common indicators are listed below. Gatekeepers could directly observe any one factor or combination of the following:

    • Unkempt appearance
    • Strong odors on person and/or in home
    • Depression, confusion, forgetfulness
    • Substance abuse
    • Caregiver stress
    • Financial and social problems
    • Physical losses
    • Yard and/or pets neglected
    • Home needs repair

    These individuals do not self-refer. Early identification of at-risk elders can prevent premature institutionalization, abuse and neglect.

  4. I think of a Senior Center full of "Old Folks", but I'm still very active.
    Why should I become a member of the Ballard Senior Center?

    There is something here for everyone whether you are an active 50 or 100 year young person.
    We are: A place where friends new and old meet, a community center for adults over 50, a work out place, a favorite lunch spot, a trip to wineries, a low or no cost wellness center, a dance and yoga studio, a craft and art studio, a dinner out with friends, a movie spot, a beloved hang out, a place to pursue new and old interests, a social club and a neighborhood gathering spot and so much more. Come and see all the great people who come here and all we do. There is something here for everyone and you will be more active than you can imagine. Hope to see you here soon.

  5. Now that I'm retired, I have lots of questions about my Medicare, Social Security benefits, long term care options and other entitlements.
    Do I have to go from one government office to another to get help?

    The Ballard Northwest Senior Center provides information to seniors through our free legal, financial and Senior Rights Assistance programs to help one navigate applications to government programs, landlord, utility, legal, financial and home care issues. Please call the center (206) 297-0403 for additional information and to arrange an appointment with the lawyer, financial advisor or Senior Rights advocate.

  6. I don't know if I'll fit in.

    Come and see if you enjoy all the center has to offer. Everyone is welcome. With so many programs and activities there is something here for everyone.

  7. I feel I can still make a contribution, be useful.
    Can I volunteer to help at the center?

    By all means!
    We certainly welcome all comers. The center is successful because of the marvelous volunteers that are such an intricate part of it. The volunteers are the heart and soul of the center. The center needs your help and we look forward to matching your abilities and skills with every type of activity we employ.

  8. How do I get an Metro reduced fare pass?

    You can visit the King County Metro Transit web site and obtain a reduced fare pass if you're 65+ years old.
    You can also call Metro Customer Service at 206-553-3060.

  9. How do I arrange for Meals on Wheels?

    You can call 206-448-5767 or apply online by clicking this link.

  10. Do I need to be a member?

    One does not need to be a member to participate but membership has its benefits. Membership fees are $30.00 per year per person. Benefits of membership include lower fees for classes, foot care, trips, invitations to member only events and the newsletter is mailed to you. Your support of the center is acknowledged.

  11. How can I make a financial donation to contribute to the good work at Ballard NW Senior Center?

  12. Is my donation tax deductible?

    Ballard NW Senior Center is a Section 501(c)(3) agency. Donations are generally tax deductible though you should seek advice from own tax advisor if you are uncertain.
    If your donation is made via PayPal, you'll recieve receipt and confirmation from them that should be sufficient for your tax purposes.
    If you donate through our office, you'll be provided receipt at time of payment...along with our great appreciation.
